How Do I Improve My Search Engine Visibility?
Whenever a company asks me this question, I usually give the following response:
"Focus on improving your product or service, convey the benefits of your product or service through an organized and informational website, and you're halfway there."
In another section of the learning center, we talked about the importance of link building within search engine optimization. Over time, inbound links (from other websites to yours) will help your website climb through the rankings.
One of the easiest ways to get links is to have something worth linking to in the first place. A unique product, ground-breaking research, a helpful resource center, an interactive website ... these are all things that add value to a website, making it easier to get people to link into you. If it's worth linking to, your link-building efforts will be easy.
Another great way to improve your visibility is by being active online. Static websites are so "last year." The current revolution (known as Web 2.0) is all about interactivity and social exchanges. Call it the MySpace Revolution, if you want, just know that people have come to expect frequently updated content and some form of interaction from modern websites.
How do you incorporate this into your website? Well, a corporate blog is an easy way to do it. Corporate blogging is a topic all of its own, so if you need a corporate blogging consultant, shoot me an email. You can also refer to this article on the SEO benefits of blogging.
The items mentioned above represent the core of a good SEO program. Sure, there are all kinds of technical considerations best left to an SEO professional. But like I always say, if you have a product and website worth talking about, you're halfway there!
