Is Search Engine Optimization Hard?
Search engine optimization is not a mysterious science. In fact, the fundamentals of SEO are pretty straightforward. I often tell clients that search engine optimization is made up of simple tasks that must be repeated more times than most people care to do them.
In another section of the Learning Center, we examined the ways you can improve your rankings in the search engines. So you can see that it's a clearcut process. But it does take a lot of time and attention to detail, and that's why most companies outsource to an Austin search engine optimization company.
How SEO is Like Cross Stitch
If I had to compare SEO to another skill, I think I would choose cross stitch. Cross stitch seems pretty straightforward to me. In fact, reduced to its essence it is a very simple mechanical motion. But that doesn't mean I could cross stitch a blanket or sweater.
Sure, I could probably perform the basic cross stitch technique, if I had to. But I don't have the time, patience, inclination or long-term vision to turn thousands of those mechanical motions into a beautiful sweater.
Also, a cross stitch expert can work much more efficiently than a novice because they don't make as many mistakes, and they're much more deft with their tools. These time-saving traits can again be compared to what professional SEO consultants offer similar time-saving benefits.
Sure, you could probably bring somebody on your staff up to speed on SEO. But many Austin companies (especially small- to medium-sized companies) cannot afford to reallocate a resource solely for search engine optimization. That's why I offer my services in addition to my training session.
More Questions to Ask
That answers the "Is SEO difficult?" question. The next questions you should ask are:
- How important is SEO to my business goals?
- Can I afford to dedicate one of my people to this task?
- If yes to the above, is there adequate training available?
- Can I better afford to outsource the task entirely?
- Is there an SEO company or consultant in town whom I trust?
